Review: AMIKA Polished Perfection Straightening Brush

If you’re one of the few people to be blessed with naturally straight sleek hair then you must’ve been a really good person in a past life. My fellow curly haired girls understand the struggle of having to straighten your hair on a daily basis. I’m always looking for a products to make doing my hair require less time and energy, so when I found this “straightening brush” on the Sephora website I thought it was worth a shot. The description claims it is good for any type of hair, and includes these key benefits: tames flyaways while straightening, preserves hair and increases shine by locking in moisture
and cuts down on styling time.

Keeping all this in mind and praying it would do as it said, I put the brush to the test..

Because the brush has a wider flat surface compared to a hair iron, it does make the process faster, cutting 1/3 of the time. The negative downside to that is that because the brush is only applying heat to one side of your hair, it does not give you as silky of a finish compared to an iron. So I really didn’t end of saving much time cause I had to go over my hair with an iron.
Less Damage
Using the brush is less damaging, again because you’re not squishing your hair between two hot plates. In my case, because I have such curly and have to go over again with an iron, this makes no difference. But if you have wavy hair and just want a quick easy straight look, you’d probably prefer using the brush.
Increases Shine?
I can defintely say it does NOT increase shine. I put Moroccan oil all over my hair before straightening it, but I felt like my hair still had frizz to it after I was done with the brush. It gives more of a blow-dry feel and look. Although, it did a good job with taming my flyaways!

Overall, I was disappointed with the product as it didn’t deliver the silky smooth hair it claimed it would. It has received positive reviews, so you could have a different experience based on your type. But I’ll be sticking to my good ol’ reliable hair straightener! Here’s the link if you want more info on it.

8 Beauty Hacks you need to know!!!

If you’ve ever wondered why my hair is so big, it’s cause it’s full of beauty hacks. LOL. These little tricks have made my life a little easier, so I thought I’d share.. hope it helps

  1. Makeup stains
If you take off your shirt and accidentally smudge your makeup on the collar, just put a few drops of shaving cream on the spot to pretreat it before throwing it in the wash.
  2. Curling your lashes

Heat your eyelash curler with a blow dryer for about 30 seconds, as blowing hot air on your eyelash curler will help your lashes curl easier and stay curled longer. It works the same way as when your hair holds a curl with a curling iron; heat changes the pattern of your hair. But wait until it cools slightly but is still warm before applying it, since you probably don’t wanna burn your lashes off LOL.

  3. Sharp eyeliner
If you’re one of those people who is terrible at getting their liquid liner to look even, place the edge of a piece of tape in line with your bottom lash line and angle the top toward the end of your eyebrow. And follow the line of the tape for perfect eyeliner (this can also be used for achieving that cut crease eyeshadow look).
  4. Controlling flyaways
If you’re like me and have major fly aways in your hair, spray hairspray on a cheap toothbrush (obviously not the one you use for your actual teeth…) and brush down the little hairs. This will keep them in place all day! You can also use the same technique on your eyebrows, instead of using a brow gel.
  5. Oily hair
It’s a well known fact that washing your hair every day is damaging, so what is one with oily hair supposed to do? Add 3 tablespoons of salt to your bottle of shampoo, and it’ll keep your roots clean for longer.
  6. No more shaving cream
Your days of buying shaving cream are over. Instead use hair conditioner over the areas you want to shave and then go in with your razor. I can promise you will literally have the softest smoothest legs ever. Thank me later.
  7. Sniff worthy hair
Take your favourite perfume and spray it on a hair brush, then brush it through your hair a few times. The smell will last much longer than spritzing it on your skin, plus your hair will smell amazing.
  8. Make your own lip plumper
Instead of dishing out $40 bucks for a lip plumper, buy a little bottle of peppermint oil and mix it with lip gloss to give the same plumping effect.

ps. My friends over at tested a bunch of hair dryers on the market right now and decided on the best ones. So if you’re looking for a new one, defintely give their reviews a read (here).

Fall ’17 Trends

It’s september… which means it’s officially (unofficially) fall. How did we get here??? I feel like it was just spring and now we have to start wearing coats again (how depressing). The most, and basically only, exciting thing about fall is the fashion, there’s so many looks you can create and this years trends are taking it back 90’s style!

1. Tartan

Defintely the stand-out print of the season, designers couldn’t get enough of tartan on the FW17 runways. Anything from mini skirts, to coats to dresses, as if you could go wrong with this Clueless inspired look 😉

2. White Shoes

You can put your black shoes back in the closet, this fall it’s all about the white shoe. The idea is to add a bit of brightness to an otherwise dark fall wardrobe. But remember to keep them in good condition as they can be worn all year round.

3. Wrap Dress

By now I’m sure you’ve noticed this is the IT dress of the year, with every blogger rockin’ this look. Take this trend into fall by wearing it with a cute pair of booties or thigh high boots. Wrap dresses were reinvented by DVF and went on to become the signature dress of her collections, but this year a brand called Realisation Par gave the wrap dress a new younger identity and it became much more than just office wear.

4. Suits

Ditch your classic LBD, it’s all about the power suit this season. Notably on every FW runway, this look will make you feel like a boss ass bitch. Inspired by none other than Hillary Clinton herself. No pants, no problem – if you’re feeling a little more sexy, go for the blazer dress, just make sure to wear some kickass shoes.

5. Mini Skirt

The miniskirt is back and better. The ultra-feminine style can be worn in leather, suede, or denim, print or solid, with boots or sneakers. Since this look shows a lot of leg, do something less revealing on top, like a chunky knit or turtleneck.

Review: Kat Von D Perfumes

Hi friends! I’m back at it again with another Influenster review. This time I received the new rerelease of the Kat Von D perfumes, which are back due to popular demand. There are two scents (Saint and Sinner), which share a few of the same core notes, yet have quite different vibes to them..

is sweet floral smell, very flirty and more of a daytime scent. It has notes of vanilla, jasmine and musk, which is nice because the musk balances out the sweetness of the vanilla, while the jasmine adds the hint of floral. Personally, I love sweet perfumes so I actually really liked this one, might even have to purchase the full size bottle as I’ve been reaching for it the most. The smell lasted on my clothes all day, but did not have as much lasting power on my skin. If you prefer a soft and fresh perfume I would definitely give this a try.
Sinner is a warm spicy smell, very sexy and more of a nighttime scent. It has notes of patchouli, wood and cinnamon, layered on a vanilla base. The spicy hint of cinnamon makes it very sultry while the floral notes bring out the sweetness of it. Although this is not the typical type of scent I go for, I actually quite liked it but I don’t know if I could stand the smell on me for a long period of time. You have to prefer more dark and warm perfumes to be able to wear this all day, and if you do then you will no doubt love Sinner.

Overall, although I enjoyed both perfumes, the only one I would purchase is Saint. Also it says they can be worn together, I have to try it but I could see how they would compliment eachother really well. I think the detial in the packaging is also beautiful, as many designer perfumes tend to have pretty basic bottles. What scent of perfume do you prefer?

* I was sent these products complimentary of Influenster for reviewing purposes.

Travel Diary: Vegas

I had always heard stories about how crazy Vegas is and we’ve all heard the sayings “what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas” “Sin city” blah blah, but I always thought people were just over exaggerating, until I actually went there…
We stayed at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, which is one of the newer hotels. Now this was my first time there so I have nothing to compare it to, but I LOVED this hotel. The rooms were amazing and spacious, the view was something else, and the service was on point. Walking from one end of the hotel to the other is like a marathon, that’s how big it is – so you can only imagine how many people you meet. The pools were the best part, you would never want to leave (refer to pic below). All in all I would rate it a 10/10, defssss recommend. The daytime pool parties are fun too, especially when you go with a good group of people. Although getting ready for them is usually a bit difficult since you’re probably hungover from the night before LOL. IMG_3609.JPG
Club-wise, it really depends what type of music you’re into. The two biggest clubs are Omnia and Hakkasan, which have house DJs such as Calvin Harris . Our group really only listens to hip hop music, so we went to Tao, Hyde and 1Oak. Tao is huge and a total Vegas vibe, had an amazing time there. Hyde has an insane view of the strip from the Bellagio.. I’ve never had such a cool view while partying haha. 1Oak was fun but nothing special or really “Vegas” about it.  Almost everything is walking distance from each other BUT if you’re wearing heels I would defintely take a cab, especially after the club LOL.
Food-wise, we really only ate at the restaurants inside the Cosmo because we were too lazy and hungover to walk anywhere else. You must try: Beauty and Essex, Eggslut, The Secret Pizza and my favourite The Wicked Spoon, which is a buffet that has the best food I’ve EVER eaten in my entire life.. like I didn’t realize guacamole could taste THAT good 😐 It’s been hard to eat after experiencing that. Overall, I slept a total of maybe 5 hours and wish I could go back and not sleep at all because it was that much fun. ps. what happens in Vegas doesn’t always stay there 😉

OOTD: trending

If you follow fashion bloggers I’m sure by now you’ve noticed this sudden trend of orange/yellow. There’s a few different shades of these colours going around, often called the “mango trend”. And I’m totally obsessed with it. Mostly because it looks amazing on tan skin, so I reckon it won’t be as big come winter time. But for now I’m embracing this pop of colour and you should too!
Another trend for Fall 17, is the reversed cuff on jeans. This pair I tried on was by Frame and I didn’t think I would like it but actually found them really cute. It’s a nice change from a basic blue jean, because it gives a dramatic rolled up effect to them.
