Why You Need to get a HydraFacial

hydrafacial-service_1_orig-480x300.jpg
Now there’s facials.. and then there is HydraFacials. They are basically the Beyonce of facials. I’d been seeing them all over the internet lately, and decided to see what all the hype was about it and whether it’s really worth it. I went to Starlight MedSpa (check out their website here), since I had heard a lot of good things about them. Kaye, who was my aesthetician, was so knowledgable that she picked up on all my skin problems just from a glance. She gave me all the facts and I’m about to share them with you guys!

What is a HydraFacial?
In simple terms it is a new technology that is meant for skin-resurfacing without having to laser. It combines cleansing, exfoliating, extraction, hydration and antioxidant protection, leaving your skin smoother and clearer almost instantly. It works to improve the appearance of congestion, fine lines, enlarged pores, acne and hyper-pigmentation. No matter what your skin issues are, HydraFacial addresses all of them and it works for any skin type.

Why you need it.
First off, before the facial even starts you get to learn about your skin type. Kaye measured the amount of hydration in my skin which was 24%, the ideal number is 40%. That right there tells me I’m not drinking enough of water.. (is ittoo late to add a new years resolution?). Then she informed me that I have broken capillaries in my skin which are caused by the sun and tanning. So pretty much no more tanning beds (ever), and sunscreen is essential every single day. Another really important point she stressed was to constantly exfoliate your skin, now whether you do it daily or a few times a week really depends on the sensitivity of your skin. This is what will get rid of all the dead skin cells, and give your face that smooth glowing look. We went over my skincare routine and the products that I use to decide whether they are doing more harm than good. For the most part they were okay – but now I have a better sense of what ingredients to look for in a product.

Now a HydraFacial will do all of the above, but in a much more intense way that our hands could never do. Even if you just do it one time to give your skin a deep clean, and then use products to maintain it, it’ll make a big difference. It’s only been a few hours since I did mine and I’ve already noticed; smaller pores, brightness, less redness, super smooth to the touch. At the end of my facial my skin was at 41% moisture level, which means it increased the hydration level of my skin by 17%. Plus your skin apparently looks the best 2-3 days after the facial!! Seriously if I knew it was this relaxing and effective I would’ve done it a long time ago!
And for the last part, they give you complementary Red Light Therapy; a skin rejuvenation treatment that increases collagen in the skin which reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, decreases acne, and results in all around firmer looking skin. Doesn’t matter how old you are, everyone will benefit from such a treatment.. cause ain’t nobody tryna get wrinkles.

If you live in Toronto or the GTA, make sure to check out Starlight MedSpa, not only is the clinic beautiful but they have cozy heat up beds, which was a highlight for me LOL. Also, the girls are so helpful and know exactly what they’re doing, it’s comforting to know you’re in good hands. Mention my name (Nina) for 20% off!!! I’m off to drink eight bottles of water, hope this was helpful! xx

I never believed in love at first sight, until I laid my on eyes on this jacket. I was on the hunt for a wool coat that was classic but still unique, and I found it at Zadig and Voltaire. If you’re not big into fashion brands, you may not have heard of it before. Zadig is a french contemporary brand, with trendy and edgy designs inspired by a Parisian lifestyle. If you live in Toronto, pop by the new boutique at Yorkdale mall, major modern vibessss. Back to the coat, the sliver foiling and buttons are what really got me, and I love olive because it really is an all year round colour. I paired the jacket with a cozy Belstaff sweater, J Brand Jeans, brown Sam Edelman booties and a Goyard Bag. Links to everything below.

Travel Diary: Vegas

I had always heard stories about how crazy Vegas is and we’ve all heard the sayings “what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas” “Sin city” blah blah, but I always thought people were just over exaggerating, until I actually went there…
We stayed at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, which is one of the newer hotels. Now this was my first time there so I have nothing to compare it to, but I LOVED this hotel. The rooms were amazing and spacious, the view was something else, and the service was on point. Walking from one end of the hotel to the other is like a marathon, that’s how big it is – so you can only imagine how many people you meet. The pools were the best part, you would never want to leave (refer to pic below). All in all I would rate it a 10/10, defssss recommend. The daytime pool parties are fun too, especially when you go with a good group of people. Although getting ready for them is usually a bit difficult since you’re probably hungover from the night before LOL. IMG_3609.JPG
Club-wise, it really depends what type of music you’re into. The two biggest clubs are Omnia and Hakkasan, which have house DJs such as Calvin Harris . Our group really only listens to hip hop music, so we went to Tao, Hyde and 1Oak. Tao is huge and a total Vegas vibe, had an amazing time there. Hyde has an insane view of the strip from the Bellagio.. I’ve never had such a cool view while partying haha. 1Oak was fun but nothing special or really “Vegas” about it.  Almost everything is walking distance from each other BUT if you’re wearing heels I would defintely take a cab, especially after the club LOL.
Food-wise, we really only ate at the restaurants inside the Cosmo because we were too lazy and hungover to walk anywhere else. You must try: Beauty and Essex, Eggslut, The Secret Pizza and my favourite The Wicked Spoon, which is a buffet that has the best food I’ve EVER eaten in my entire life.. like I didn’t realize guacamole could taste THAT good 😐 It’s been hard to eat after experiencing that. Overall, I slept a total of maybe 5 hours and wish I could go back and not sleep at all because it was that much fun. Travel Diary: Los Cabos

I’ve come to the conclusion that coming back to reality after a vacation is one of the worst feelings ever… Why can’t I just live an island with palm trees and margaritas 😦
As you can tell by my depression I just got back from the tropics – which is my new fave word btw – and I thought I’d share my experience with you guys.
It’s my second time travelling to Cabo, and I have to say out of all the resorty places I’ve been to it’s probably my favourite. I know Mexico gets a bad rep for being dangerous but Cabo is a such a small city and the people are so kind, you don’t get a scary vibe at all. If you ever plan on a trip to Cabo, here are some tips:

  1. The first time I stayed at the Riu Palace, and although the hotel was gorgeous, food was delicious, the crowd was a lot older. This time we stayed at the Riu Santa Fe, which is right next door, the hotel isn’t as nice and the food isn’t as good but we had way more fun and made so many new friends. Side note: if you stay at the Palace you can use the facilities of the Santa Fe, but not the other way around. If you’re picky about food and want a nicer hotel, I would stay at the Palace and just hang out at the Santa Fe. Which I regret not doing and will do next time.
  2. There is an entertainment district which has several clubs you can hop in and out of without paying cover!!! The music was mostly top 40 and house and the drinks are quite pricey.
  3. You can’t swim in the ocean. I mean technically you can, if you’re okay with sharks, undertow and dying and stuff. I’m actually a pretty good swimmer but still not tryna die so I only went knee deep. In other words, if one of your requirements of a holiday is a swimmable ocean, I would go elsewhere – although the view is stunning. Now for the most important part… outfits and swimsuits!!! 1. Hand Cream
If you’ve ever been on a plane before I’m sure you’ve noticed your skin feeling really chalky and dry. It’s really not a good feeling, so have a small tube of cream to keep reapplying on your skin. Make sure it’s under 100ml!
  2. Eye Drops
The atmosphere on a plane is incredibly dry, due to the high altitude. So it not only does it put a strain on your skin, but it sucks the moisture out of your eyes as well. So make sure to keep a bottle of eye drops in your bag, to keep your eyes lubricated and awake, especially if you have an overnight flight.
  3. Sleeping Mask/Ear Plugs
If you’re planning on sleeping on a flight, I reccommend having these two things to trick your body into sleeping, since it’s not in it’s usual sleeping position. I’m a very light sleeper and I have trouble falling asleep on planes. So using a mask and ear plugs, drowns out all the light and noise and makes me feel more relaxed and my body more open to sleep.
  4. Earphones
I know this is an obvious one but some people rely on getting a free pair from the plane. A lot of airlines these days charge for a set of headphones, or might not even have them. Stick to what you know and bring your own pair. Can you imagine being stuck on a plane for hours without headphones…. horrifying thought.
  5. Phone Charger/Adapter
Depending on what country you’re travelling to, they may have different plugs and none of your appliances will work. Trust me, been there done that. Do your research beforehand, and if you do need an adapter the airport is great place to buy a universal one.
  6. Snacks
The worst is when you get hungry in the middle of a flight, or you might just hate airplane food. Pack a couple small packs of snacks to keep you satisfied for the duration of the flight. A couple granola bars or mini chip bags can go a long way.
  7. Pain reliever pills
You know never what can happen so keeping a travel sized bottle of Advil is a major key. Just in case you get a headache from the turbulence or stomach ache from the food.
  8. Mouthwash
If you don’t wanna pack a toothbrush and toothpaste in your carry on, a good alternative is mouthwash. Quick, easy and no hassle.
  9. Magazine/Book
I don’t think I’ve EVER travelled without both of these. I find reading on a plane really relaxes me and makes the time fly by. Especially good for keeping you off your phone and not wasting battery!
  10.  Fuzzy socks
Keeping your shoes on for hours is uncomfortable, not to mention when your feet get that weird fuzzy feeling on a plane.. you know what I’m talking about. Wearing a pair of fuzzy socks will keep them warm and comfortable.
  11. A Pen
This actually just reminded me to put a pen in my purse. Always needed to fill out customs forms for when you’re landing. You don’t wanna be that person asking everyone to borrow a pen.
  12. Anti-bacterial Wipes
Germs are EVERYWHERE! You never know the different type of bacteria that is on a plane, since people from all over the world have sat in your spots. Wipe down your fold up table in front of you and armrests when you first get on.
  13. Gum
Chewing gum before takeoff and landing will help prevent your ears from plugging. Not. A. Good. Feeling.

Tips on Shopping Vintage Bags

IMG_0791

I’ve come to the conclusion that March is the worst month of the year. It use to be November, but he was demoted (I say he because it’s so disappointing it must be a man LOL). At this point it’s been cold for so long I’m ready to lie in a tanning bed until the mother nature decides to start playing nice.
On a more positive note…. I’m here to give y’all some tips on shopping vintage designer bags. In order for a bag to be classified as “vintage”, it is usually one of two things; the age of the bag is 10 years +, or no longer in production. Here’s a small list of things you should check before investing in a vintage bag..

  1. AUTHENTICITY – Every brand new designer leather good you purchase will always come with a authenticity card. I recommend always keeping the card, in case you ever want to re-sell you’ll have proof that it is genuine. Unfortunately not everyone does this, so most times buying vintage you’ll have to trust your gut. Do your research. Examine seams, stitching and lining.
  2. CONDITION – There’s a reason designer bags are so expensive, the quality is made to last a lifetime. Obviously over time, it’s natural for a little wear and tear on the edges of a bag. But never consider anything that has any rips or cracks in the leather. A major key to this is seeing and feeling it in person. Don’t buy anything online before doing this!!!!
  3. PRICE – Don’t break the bank buying a vintage piece. Whether you are buying from a consignment store or from the owner, you can always bargain for a better price! If they are charging you more than 50-70% of the original price, skip it, you can find a better deal! The good thing about buying vintage is that you know the piece has retained its value, and is more like an investment because you can always re-sell it. The brands labelled as the best investments are Hermes, Chanel, and Louis Vuitton.

I’ll give you the quick version of how I found this bag. We were shopping in SoHo (NYC) and walked into this consignment store. There wasn’t too much selection, mostly LV and Chanel. First I spotted the most beautiful Chanel boy bag in pink velvet (I know!!!!!!!!), I probably would’ve gotten that but it didn’t even fit my phone… 😦 then I saw the LV backpack, and I was actually wanting a cute mini backpack. Tried it on, loved it, bought it. The owner told me the bag is from 1999, and is actually much better quality than the LV made today. I negotiated with him on the price a little bit and ended up getting it for half of what the original retail price was. Let me know if you’re interested in the name of the store! Hope this was helpful xo

Most Iconic Grammy Looks

Ah, it’s that time of year again… The Grammys are upon us. I don’t know about you, but I got my wine and popcorn ready. I love The Grammys because it’s one of the less boring award shows and the performances are always entertaining. Not to mention the fashion can be a little more daring and risque, compared to the more elegant vibe of the Oscars. So in honour of that I thought I’d make a list of the best and most iconic Grammy red carpet looks of all time.
