Best Moisturizer Ever?

I’m going to be raving about this product non-stop, so let me start by saying this is not sponsored (although I wish it was).
Shoutout to the girl at Sephora who suggested OleHenriksen to me because their products are amazing!!! Now I think I’ve gone through at least about 8 bottles of the Sheer Transformation Perfecting Moisturizer, and probably will continue to do so for the rest of my life. Here’s why…

  • it doesn’t break me out
  • oil free and doesn’t make your skin greasy
  • evens skintone and works great for dark spots
  • light formula but still hydrating
  • works for all skin types (BUT I do have oily skin which is why I like the fact that is lightweight, if you have very dry skin you might prefer a thicker more hydrating cream)
  • absorbs very quickly
  • you can even wear it as a night cream

I’ve tried different creams in between just to make sure I’m not missing out on anything better, but honestly it just makes me realize how much better this one is. When you find something this good it’s hard to let go. It is a little pricey, but a little goes a long way (the 50mL bottle lasts me at least 4-5 months).
Other products from OleHenriksen I also love are the Walnut Scrub and the Truth Serum. So next time you need to pick up a new moisturizer, try this one I promise you won’t be disappointed!!

Top 5 Uses for Activated Charcoal Powder

You’ve probably seen tons of influencers on social media using charcoal powder for a variety of reasons. I’m gonna tell you all the benefits and the different ways to use it.

What is Activated Charcoal Powder?
It is a powder form of coal that has a lot of positive effects on our bodies. It is commonly used to rid our immune systems of toxins or poisons. Since it is a pure and natural substance, it is a healthier alternative to other products that are chemically produced. I use the one by Organika, which they were kind enough to send to me – check it out here.

Ways to use it
1. Face Mask: Take 1tsp of honey, 1tsp charcoal, a few drops of water. Mix mix mix. Then apply it to your face (avoiding eye area). Leave it on for 10 mins or longer. Rinse off with warm water. Treats acne and dark spots.
*you can just mix it with water, but I tried it this way the first time and did not like the consistency of the mask + it was a lot harder to wash it all off. The second time I added the honey and not only was the application a lot smoother but washing it off was also a breeze.
2. Teeth Whitener: Mix 1tsp with a few drops of water to create a paste. Brush teeth for 1-2 mins. Rinse. Brush again with your regular toothpaste. For best results do this 3 times week. It works to whiten teeth by attacking plaque and teeth stains, it’s much more cost effective and natural compared to something like branded teeth whitening strips.
3. Alleviates Gas and Bloating
Another use that is often overlooked, it helps prevent or get rid of gas and bloating.
Just mix 1tsp with a glass of water, and then drink a regular glass of water right after for every glass of charcoal water you consume.
4. Treats Hangovers and Alcohol Poisoning
The powder helps to quickly absorb toxins in your body that contribute to poisoning. Take the same steps as #3
5. Digestive Cleanse
Another reason to drink activated charcoal is if you simply want to cleanse your body of toxins that cause allergies, tiredness, weak immune system, high cholesterol, among many other health concerns. Basically it benefits everyone, and harms no one.
Take the same steps as #3

Why You Need to get a HydraFacial

Now there’s facials.. and then there is HydraFacials. They are basically the Beyonce of facials. I’d been seeing them all over the internet lately, and decided to see what all the hype was about it and whether it’s really worth it. I went to Starlight MedSpa (check out their website here), since I had heard a lot of good things about them. Kaye, who was my aesthetician, was so knowledgable that she picked up on all my skin problems just from a glance. She gave me all the facts and I’m about to share them with you guys!

What is a HydraFacial?
In simple terms it is a new technology that is meant for skin-resurfacing without having to laser. It combines cleansing, exfoliating, extraction, hydration and antioxidant protection, leaving your skin smoother and clearer almost instantly. It works to improve the appearance of congestion, fine lines, enlarged pores, acne and hyper-pigmentation. No matter what your skin issues are, HydraFacial addresses all of them and it works for any skin type.

Why you need it.
First off, before the facial even starts you get to learn about your skin type. Kaye measured the amount of hydration in my skin which was 24%, the ideal number is 40%. That right there tells me I’m not drinking enough of water.. (is ittoo late to add a new years resolution?). Then she informed me that I have broken capillaries in my skin which are caused by the sun and tanning. So pretty much no more tanning beds (ever), and sunscreen is essential every single day. Another really important point she stressed was to constantly exfoliate your skin, now whether you do it daily or a few times a week really depends on the sensitivity of your skin. This is what will get rid of all the dead skin cells, and give your face that smooth glowing look. We went over my skincare routine and the products that I use to decide whether they are doing more harm than good. For the most part they were okay – but now I have a better sense of what ingredients to look for in a product.

Now a HydraFacial will do all of the above, but in a much more intense way that our hands could never do. Even if you just do it one time to give your skin a deep clean, and then use products to maintain it, it’ll make a big difference. It’s only been a few hours since I did mine and I’ve already noticed; smaller pores, brightness, less redness, super smooth to the touch. At the end of my facial my skin was at 41% moisture level, which means it increased the hydration level of my skin by 17%. Plus your skin apparently looks the best 2-3 days after the facial!! Seriously if I knew it was this relaxing and effective I would’ve done it a long time ago!
And for the last part, they give you complementary Red Light Therapy; a skin rejuvenation treatment that increases collagen in the skin which reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, decreases acne, and results in all around firmer looking skin. Doesn’t matter how old you are, everyone will benefit from such a treatment.. cause ain’t nobody tryna get wrinkles.

If you live in Toronto or the GTA, make sure to check out Starlight MedSpa, not only is the clinic beautiful but they have cozy heat up beds, which was a highlight for me LOL. Also, the girls are so helpful and know exactly what they’re doing, it’s comforting to know you’re in good hands. Mention my name (Nina) for 20% off!!! I’m off to drink eight bottles of water, hope this was helpful! xx

The BEST everyday foundation

Is anyone else stuck in this realm of not wanting to wear heavy foundation on a daily basis but also wanting your skin to look even and smooth? Well I found the solution to your problem 😀

I have to be honest, I never really believed in “tinted moisturizers” solely because they never have good coverage and usually disappear off your face in a couple of hours. And who wants a face product they can’t trust??? Ain’t nobody tryna look patchy…. So believe me when I say I have found the perfect tinted moisturizer, because I don’t take this lightly LOL.

Shoutout to NARS, for creating this product because it has now become my go-to for everyday makeup. Let me tell you why…

  1. The coverage is AMAZING, it feels more like a sheer coverage foundation in my opinion, just because of how well it evens out the skin tone while still managing to look like you’re not wearing any makeup. Apply it with a beauty blender for a more natural look, or with your fingers if you want more coverage.
  2. It comes in two variations, for dry and oily skin. If you have dry skin, go for the Pure Radiant version, if you’re more on the oily side go for the Velvet Matte.
  3. It will honestly last on your skin ALL DAY!!! On days when I’m working I wear it for a good 12 hours, and it has not oxidized or become patchy. But I do recommend setting it with a powder just to make sure it doesn’t move.

A few things I want to add. One, if you have acne or scarring to cover up then this might not work for you. This is more for the person with light blemishes and relatively clear skin. Two, the price tag is quite steep at $55CAD a pop, but if you’re willing to spend then it is worth it!

Review: Shiseido WetForce BB

Shiseido BB Broad Spectrum SPF 50+ WetForce

This product is a beauty balm that combines skin care and makeup into one. It has a SPF rating of 50 and is water resistant for 80 minutes. Also as with most BB’s, it does have an added tint of colour to be the foundation of your makeup look. It’s perfect for beach/pool days, or even just an everyday summer foundation when you’re going for a natural look. The Shiseido Wet Force BB comes in three different tints, light, medium and dark.

When I first put on the cream I was surprised at the coverage, it really evened out my skintone and covered all my blemishes. BB creams tend to have very light coverage, but this one really looks like a foundation. The best part is, you don’t need to apply so many products, and the if you don’t get your face wet it will last you all day. The only issue I have with this product is the colour. I used the medium, and it was way too light for my skin. In other BB creams I’ve always been a true medium, so I was a little disappointed at the colouring in the product. I would definitely reccomend picking up a shade darker than you usually would. Because of this I won’t be using it as an everyday product, but defintely would reach for it when I’m having a beach/pool day.
Rating 8/10

Shiseido Ultimate Cleansing Oil

This cleanser is meant to be remove water resistant SPF and long wearing makeup off your skin. I had never used a cleansing oil before this product, mostly because I was scared it would intensify my already oily skin. I am now realizing how wrong I was. The first step in my skincare routine is using the Bioderma Makeup Remover, after that I cleanse my skin with whichever cleanser I’m using at the time. I tried this one for a week, and I found it removed all traces of makeup left on my skin, while leaving it feeling super soft and hydrated. You don’t even need to mosturize after, because that’s how soft and smooth it makes your skin. The other way to use it is in the shower, you can cleanse your whole body with this as it removes strong sunscreen. This product compliments the rest of this range really well.
Rating 9/10

Shiseido Urban Environment UV Protection SPF 40

Shiseido is known for their exceptional sunscreen products and this one is no exception. This is your classic sunscreen for face and body, and is suppose to protect your skin from harmful UVA/UVB rays that age your skin.
I tried it on my face and because I’m quite tan right now it made me look a little ghostly by leaving a white cast, so I don’t recommend it as a face product if you’re darker than a medium skin tone. However, on my body it felt really nice and light, without leaving a white residue or looking greasy.

Rating (for body) 9/10

I received these products complimentary from Influenster for testing purposes.

Review: Shiseido Products from Influenster

I looove trying new products because you never know when you’re gonna strike gold and find a new holy grail! So I was super excited to receive a few Shiseido products complimentary from Influenster to do a review. I’ll be honest I’ve never tried any Shiseido products, mostly cause I just thought it was like a mom brand you know? I am now realizing I was sleeeeepin’ on them big time..

1) Ibuki Smart Filtering Smoother Serum
Ok forget that super complicated name, in simpler terms it’s a blurring product that reduces the appearance of pores, while making your skin smooth and producing less oil throughout the day. And coming from a person with oily skin, I can honestly say it does all three. I’ve been using it everyday for a week now, my skin looks noticeably smoother which makes my foundation look much more flawless and natural. Not to mention, I don’t have to touch up at all throughout the day anymore. It only takes a tiniest bit on your t-zone too, to create a smooth canvas for your makeup. If you have oily skin, I recommend this product 10/10!! I’ll definitely be buying a new bottle when mine finishes. The product does say it works for all skin types, so you can check it out if you have dry skin, I really don’t see it not working just as well. Click here to see it online.

2) Ultimate Power Infusing Concentrate
s1641711-main-LheroThe purpose of this serum is to slow down signs of aging (wrinkles, fine lines, etc.), so with that being said you usually don’t expect short term results with anti-again products!!! The whole point of them is to save your skin over a long period of time, and your early 20’s is the best time to start because they work as preventative products. Now onto the product itself, first off I am obsessed with the scent – to the point where I will repurchase it just for that reason. Obviously you will not see the results of the anti-aging treatment right away, but what I have noticed in the span of a week(!!!) is my dark spots fading and my skin looking brighter. I can only imagine the results over the next few months. It is a little pricey at $79CAD for a bottle, but hey cheaper than a facelift right? LOL. It also works for every skin type so I suggest asking for a sample at Sephora to test it out. Click here to see it online.

Dear Santa…

I can’t believe how fast this month has gone by, I haven’t even had time to wrap all my presents yet!!! Some people I’ve talked to got their shopping done in November….. and those people need to write a book on how to get your shit together because I would buy it. I wanted to make a list of generic but still thoughtful last minute gifts for anyone in your life!!

  1. WORKOUT GEAR – for the person who is fitness obsessed or if their resolution is to start going to the gym, some new clothes or shoes might motivate them
  2. SKINCARE/MAKEUP – I really feel like who can’t go wrong with this because which girl doesn’t love at least skin care or makeup? I would be happy with anything from Sephora or even a gift card, they also have really nice value gift sets this time of year.
  3. WATCH/JEWELLERY – This gift tends to work best for a significant other because it comes across as very thoughtful and sweet. For a girl, something like a pretty necklace or earrings, since it’s more of a romantic gesture. For a guy, a watch is something you know they’ll love and wear, click here for my post on where to find the perfect watch.
  4. SHOES – if there is someone you want to splurge on, I suggest a pair of designer shoes… For a girl a pair of heels is ALWAYS nice (cc: Jimmy Choo, Valentino, MiuMiu, YSL). For a guy, you can get him dress shoes or sneakers depending on his style (cc: Gucci, Buscemi, Balenciaga)

If you have set a small limit, or you’re doing secret santa, or you just wanna get something small for a coworker, the best options are
1. Bottle of wine or champagne
2. Box of chocolates/candy
3. Candle
4. Starbucks gift card

Hope this helps!! Happy holidays xo

OOTN + DIY distressing

Hey y’all, I’m back at it again with another outfit of the night and surprise surprise I’m wearing thigh high boots LOL. It was ‘add to cart’ at first sight. I ordered for the first time  from Pubic Desire during the black friday sale, I wasn’t too sure about it because it’s not cute when you can tell shoes are cheap by just looking at them. But I was happy with the ones I ordered and they’re actually really comfortable! If you’re looking for trendy shoes but don’t wanna spend a lot I would check them out.  The ones I’m wearing are available here and come in a few colours. The “dress” I’m wearing is actually a mens t-shirt from H&M, it’s the longer style which is why it fits me like a dress, not because I’m a midget or anything. Because the boots are red it’s quite limiting on what you can wear with them, so I went with pink cause I really like the combination, or any neutral colour would look good too. Don’t wanna brag or anything but I actually cut it up the shirt myself, I know I know so Yeezy of me. It was my first time altering a piece of clothing myself and I didn’t completely ruin it so yay me. Obviously I had to watch a tutorial on how to do it and it’s not hard at all, it just takes time and hand power haha. All you really need is stuff you would most likely have around the house anyways, so if you don’t wanna pay ridiculous amounts of money to look homeless and rather DIY then watch this video    —> DIY Distressing.

ps. I’m wearing Lilly Lashes in this pic and I highly recommend them! ❤

REVIEW: Clinique Pep Start Eye Cream

Hellooo there! It’s been a while since I’ve done a beauty review because I haven’t bought a lot of new products recently, due to the fact that I’m too lazy to do my makeup anymore. And it is just as sad as it sounds. Although about a month ago I picked up this new Clinique eye cream, cause the girl at Sephora persuaded me and when do we not fall for it? -_-
But I must admit, I did end up loving it (so I guess she wins this time)

The cream is said to hydrate and brighten under your eye. Using it in the morning it refreshes your skin and makes you appear more wide awake. It is actually really good at doing that… when I use it I find just using a bit of corrector under my eye is enough and I don’t bother with concealer after that. But even if you do wear concealer on top, it’ll apply much nicer and definitely doesn’t crease as much!

My eyes are also really tired when I wake up, even if I’ve had a solid eight hours, so this actually really helps to open them and make me feel more awake. I forgot to mention the best part…….. it’s only 30 bucks!!!!! That’s what made me buy it in the first place, even if it sucked at least it was cheap. Most eye creams are usually way more costly than that, so this is a good choice if you don’t want to spend a lot.

Now as much I love the product itself.. I hate the application. A lot. The bottle comes with a ball tip (that doesn’t come off) and you have to squeeze the product out of it and then massage it with the ball into your skin. Annoying right? Honestly I don’t know if the ball application has a purpose or better result but it does take a couple minutes to blend in, and let me tell you ain’t nobody got time for dat! Alsoooo, when you push the ball back down a lot of product jumps out, so my trick is to squeeze a little on one eye then close the tip and put whatever comes out on the other eye so it doesn’t waste. If you do end up buying it, make sure you do that trick!!! BUT don’t expect any miracles.. at the end of the day it’s a cream and isn’t going to make your dark circles suddenly disappear. If you want something that’ll brighten your eyes then give this a try and let me know what you think!

Favourites: Highlighters

Hi hunnies! I will be discussing an very important topic today which is the phenomenon that is highlighters (not the marker, the glow). I’ll share my favourite ones and how I use them and a few tricks on how to get that intense yasssss bitch type of glow.

So my everyday highlight, when I want something subtle and soft, I use MAC’s global glow. It’s not super bright, I would say more of a natural look, well as natural as highlight can look haha. This is because it’s more bronze based so it blends in more with your skintone. Also, I’ve had mine for like two years and still haven’t hit pan. Here’s the swatch below:

mac_globalglow006                                             (Image: Temptalia)

Next up we have Becca Cosmetics, obviously everyone’s favourite. I have three shades, Moonstone, Opal and Champagne Pop. I have to stay these are probably the best ones available right now, the pigmentation and wear is really amazing, so if you don’t own one I definitely recommend checking them out. Now Moonstone and Opal have a white base to them and will look really bright on tan and darker skintones. I don’t wear either of them when I’m tan because it looks a little too intense and doesn’t blend the way I want it to. But for the winter time, they are my go-to. If I haaaad to choose a favourite it would probably be Champagne Pop (shoutout to Jaclyn Hill one time).  Only because the colour blends perfectly since it’s more peach based but it still does it still gives you that bright dewy look. It would suit any skintone as well, so if you want a Becca one I’d say get this one first. Also I’ve heard that Moonstone and Opal mixed together looks really similar to Champagne Pop, so if you have those two give it a try.

Now moving onto cream highlighters. Before I get into products, let me explain how and why I use them. When I want to make my highlight pop even more than usual, I first put a cream based one underneath before layering my powder highlight on top. This makes it much brighter and last even longer, because the powder clings onto the cream. Now I only do this for special occasions because it’s way too much for everyday. Or I’ll use the cream just on its own if I want a more natural look. My two favourite cream highlights are Benefit’s Watts Up and Sephora Radiant Luminizing Drops in Morning Light. With cream based products you usually have to work really fast and blend quickly, because if it drys it’ll look patchy. I often go over it with a beauty blender to make sure that doesn’t happen. If you have dry skin I’d suggest checking out the Sephora drops as they give a really dewy look. dsndksn(Benefit, Sephora Collection)

My last two pieces of advice:

  1. Do not use a fan brush to apply powder highlight, regardless of what you’ve heard. Fan brushes are not dense and are too wide for a precise application. Instead get the Anastasia #33 brush, which was made specifically for highlight application. Coming from someone who went from using a fan brush to this one, TRUST ME it makes such a huge difference and applies product so much better. (pic below)
  2. If you want to blend your highlighter with the rest of your face makeup, always spray some type of face mist at the end of your makeup routine. It really brings your blush contour and highlight together. My favourite mist is the MAC Fix +
  3. Okay I lied, I have one more trick. If you really wanna intensify your highlight, take the same face mist and spray on your brush then dip it in your highlight and apply it. Be warned, this really brings out the pigmentation of the product.

Okay that’s it. Hope this was helpful and I’m sorry for using the word highlight about 500 times. Let me know your favourite products so I can check them out!! xo
